We have just completed our visit to St Bernards school in Glengormley, Antrim. What a rollercoaster of a ride it’s been, from creating, writing & directing our three original plays that draw upon key themes within the PDMU curriculum, producing teaching resources for all year groups & shaping workshops for all pupils to get the most out of our visit.
We LOVE this!
We arrived to a warm welcome and ran through our plays and workshops to a great reception from the Little Giants of St Bernard’s! They engaged with all our larger than life characters and showed their learnings from each play when we discussed after.
Acting principle, Mr Kavenagh, booked us during the summer break and Mrs Leighcock was on hand as the PDMU lead. They allowed the pupils to have a non-uniform day and structured their day around our lesson resources to be a ‘wellbeing day’, focusing on the development and growth of every pupil in the school. Just wonderful!
This was a smart way of funding our visit too. We understand budgets can be difficult to find. St Bernard’s asked parents to contribute £1 per child for their wellness day (and non-uniform) which meant the cost of our visit was minimal to the school and everyone benefited from a full day of entertaining plays, engaged pupils, happy teachers and 2 very fulfilled Little Giants (that’s us!)
We are thrilled to be returning next academic year with our cycle B plays which we are working on currently. These new plays will ensure that all pupils will see a different story next year which explores other themes of the PDMU curriculum.
